Please note:
Elk Horn Lodge does not allow pets. Thank you for understanding and helping us maintain a clean, comfortable environment for all guests.

ElkHorn Lodge complies fully with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Missouri Human Rights Act (MHRA). These laws require all lodging establishments to allow service animals that are individually trained to perform tasks for guests with disabilities. Service animals are not pets, and our no‑pets policy does not apply to them.

What Is a Service Animal

A service animal is a dog trained to perform specific tasks directly related to a person’s disability. Examples include guiding individuals who are blind, alerting individuals who are deaf, pulling a wheelchair, or assisting during medical episodes.

Emotional Support Animals (ESAs), comfort animals, therapy animals, and pets are not considered service animals under the ADA and are not permitted.

Where Service Animals Are Allowed

Service animals are welcome in all areas of the lodge where guests are normally permitted, including guest rooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces.

What Staff May Ask

If it is not obvious that the dog is a service animal, staff may only ask two ADA‑approved questions:

  • Is the dog required because of a disability

  • What task has the dog been trained to perform

Staff may not request documentation, certification, proof of disability, or require the dog to wear a vest.

Guest Responsibilities

Guests with service animals must ensure the animal:

  • Is under control at all times

  • Is housebroken

  • Does not pose a direct threat to others

  • Does not cause property damage

Guests may be charged for actual damages caused by the service animal, consistent with standard guest damage policies.

Removal of a Service Animal

A service animal may be asked to leave the property only if:

  • The animal is out of control and the handler does not take effective action

  • The animal is not housebroken

  • The animal poses a direct threat to health or safety

If removal is necessary, the guest may remain on the property without the animal.

Fees

ElkHorn Lodge does not charge pet fees, cleaning fees, or deposits for service animals. Standard cleaning or damage fees may apply only if the animal causes damage.

Smoking is not permitted inside any room. Designated outdoor smoking areas are available.
